Abstract:

[Objective] In the age of the digital economy, data has become a vital production component that supports economic growth. Research has indicated that it is uncertain how the data will evolve qualitatively, and the realization of their value faces many challenges. [Methods] This study summarizes and analyzes current research on the value realization of the data factor based on a thorough review of relevant literature and policies. Further on this basis, relevant research is carried out on the value-based evolutionary path of data factor in China. [Results] This paper clarifies different data forms, from raw data to data capital, and proposes a theoretical model for an evolutionary path for data factor value. [Conclusions] The “six states” of the data factor and the “five stages” of its value evolution are explained in this paper, which have practical implications for normalizing the evolution of the data factor and serve as solid evidence in favor of encouraging the efficient release of its value.
